Night of Museums in Vicenza

On Saturday, May 18th, from 6 to 10 p.m., museums in Vicenza's historic center will come alive for a special treasure hunt for little ghostbusters

Night of Museums in Vicenza

The traditional appointment with the “European Night of Museums,” an initiative that has involved museums throughout Europe since 2005, is back in Vicenza. On Saturday, May 18th, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., museums in Vicenza's historic center will open their doors with a special ticket of €1 per person per museum. These include The Jewellery Museum, the Gallerie d'Italia - Vicenza, the Diocesan Museum, the Palladio Museum (CISA - Centro Internazionale di Studi di Architettura Andrea Palladio) and, among the Civic Museums, the Palazzo Chiericati Museum and the Naturalistic Archaeological Museum. The initiative is promoted in collaboration with the City of Vicenza and coordinated by the Scatola Cultura Cooperative.

This year, Museum Night in Vicenza will be dedicated to the theme “Operation Ghostbusters: hunting for ghosts in the city's museums.” Visitors of all ages can go on an exciting adventure in search of ghosts hidden among the works of art. There will be many special activities designed for children, who will be able to transform themselves into real ghostbusters. Those who will uncover at least three during their visit to the museums involved in the initiative will be able to collect a special prize at the Gallerie d'Italia - Vicenza, which will remain open until midnight (last entry at 11:30 p.m.) and will also offer the special “Itineraries of Wonder” route (for adults and students) at 9:30 and 10:30 p.m.

THE JEWELLERY MUSEUM: AN ADVENTURE AMONG JEWELRY AND MAGIC STONES
Among the glittering halls of the Museum, you can create a magic stone kit to ward off prankster spirits. Young and old alike will have to find some of the jewelry on display, draw them and discover their hidden powers. On the way out, they will be given a magical object to guard with a secret formula (museodelgioiello.it).

GALLERIE D'ITALIA - VICENZA A FORGETFUL GHOST AMONG SCULPTURES AND PAINTINGS
At the Gallerie d'Italia - Vicenza it is possible to get lost among the many rooms on the main floor of Palazzo Leoni Montanari in an attempt to help a forgetful ghost. He is Bernardino Montanari, founder of the family that gave its name to Vicenza's only Baroque mansion and still an important symbol of the city's entrepreneurial history. By carefully following the directions of the ghost, who has returned to visit his beloved places, one can test oneself, among sculptures and
paintings, to find the secret passage that will bring Bernardino back home (gallerieditalia.com/en/vicenza/exhibitions-and-initiatives).

AT THE MUSEO DIOCESANO LOST OBJECTS AND SPOOKY PORTRAITS
A mischievous ghost has lost his “valuables” among the works of the Diocesan Museum. Who will be able to find the lost objects and unearth his spooky portrait? Families and children are invited to help this specter find his peace and admire his mysterious face (museodiocesanovicenza.it).

PALLADIO MUSEUM: TRANSPARENT PAPERS AND PALLADIAN MASTERPIECES
The spectre of Andrea Palladio welcomes visitors to the Palladio Museum with a rhyme full of clues. One will have to follow his rhymes to track down four precious and transparent cards like ghosts. Whoever brings them all together will see the image of a Palladian masterpiece appear, as if by magic (palladiomuseum.org).

DISCOVERING PALAZZO CHIERICATI, BETWEEN STARS AND MYSTERY
The ghost of Girolamo Chiericati will guide the public to discover his mansion, Palazzo Chiericati. Among its rooms, he will talk about astronomy, astrology, stars and constellations. To entertain young visitors, he will offer them a crossword puzzle to complete with missing words, secret stories and characters to find (museicivicenza.it/en/mcp/museo.php).

CLUES AND PUZZLES AT THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL NATURE MUSEUM
At the Archaeological Nature Museum, the ghost of a Longobard warrior is truly indisposed. Who dared to awaken him after so long? Dances, puzzles and mysterious objects will be needed to calm his senses and bring him back to his otherworldly world (museicivicenza.it/en/mna/museo.php).
On the occasion of Museum Night, the exhibition “The Russian Retreat: on the Don River with Giulio Bedeschi and the Hundred Thousand Ice Jars” remains open to the public until 9 p.m., organized by the Bertoliana Civic Library in the Palazzo Cordellina building (librecabertoliana.it).
