Called the “queens of gems,” pearls have crossed the centuries loaded with symbolism: purity and Marian devotion, seduction and vanity, and a bond with the moon and the feminine world, from marriage to moments of high representation. From the refined Sicilian works of the 17th century to Venetian “manin” chains and the iconic strands of the 20th century, pearls, natural or cultured, white, black, or iridescent, remain protagonists of jewels that express status, taste, and identity.
Alongside pearls, the room presents diamonds and precious gemstones: from platinum Art Nouveau pieces to elegant “white bijoux,” and the colorful explosions of sapphires, rubies, and emeralds in Italian creations of the late 20th century. Flexible ribbon-like bracelets, modular necklaces, and pieces inspired by Kinetic Art illustrate how pearls and gems continue, between classicism and experimentation, to bring light and movement to Italian jewellery.
