This room explores the fascinating dialogue between the precious object and the space that hosts it: caskets, boxes, and cabinets that are not mere containers but true works of art.

Since the 17th century, goldsmiths and woodworkers collaborated to create refined Kunstkammer cabinets with hidden drawers, clad in ivory, hardstones, and rock crystal. These architectural micro-worlds held jewels, perfumes, small boxes, and amulets, containers that themselves became jewels.
In the 20th century, the genre evolved. From the precious Art Deco caskets of Alfredo Ravasco to the material and informal surfaces of Kiky Vice Vinci’s boxes, the container became a space for creative experimentation, a bridge between design, art, and craftsmanship.

Displayed alongside the containers is a selection of bracelets, brooches, and rings illustrating the evolution of jewellery from the 19th to the 21st century: from the smoothed coral of Ligurian tradition to the plastic metals of the 1940s, from the refined enamels of Valenza to the formal experiments of contemporary artists.

A journey revealing how the act of preserving has always been an artistic gesture: the container celebrates the jewel, and the jewel in turn gives life to the container.
